Edited by Grace Comely, Ty Goddard and Sarah Hill, with illustrations by Sam Booth and Andrew Siddall. School Works, 2005. £10 www. school-works. org This wire-bound A4 book is intended to 'inspire, challenge and guide you'. The 'you', apparently, is anybody involved in schools - children, parents, teachers, governors - and possibly architects.

The main means of communication is by sketches, beautifully drawn by Sam Booth and Andrew Siddall. The difficulty is that the brief exhortations such as 'don't forget the obvious: comfort is important and sunlight can cause real glare' don't always relate very obviously to the adjacent image. But great drawings.
