Theme: sustainability

Architype's design is an evolution of its Ecolite ideas (aj 3.4.97). It uses pile and beam foundations to minimise ground disturbance and to deal with poor ground. Timber I-beams and recycled newspaper insulation are used for prefabricated cladding and floor panels. Wall finishes could be factory-applied timber or traditional brick or tile.

A void is created on the inside of wall panels for services - a relatively elaborate provision, and one that needs care with acoustics and fire spread.

Architype anticipates a significant reduction in material use. And, as with its built projects, there is attention to the local sourcing of natural materials.

Production is changed from general contracting to five construction packages, with options for self-build.
