Tate wants private company to run observation gallery

news

The Tate Gallery is looking for an organisation to run independently an observation gallery at the top of the Bankside Power Station.

The gallery, planned for the top of the Giles Gilbert Scott building's central chimney, would have impressive views across London. It is certain to prove controversial if lottery money is seen to contribute to a private company's financial gain, separate from the Tate. The backers of the scheme are not yet sure if it will be part of the first phase of the project, planned to open in the year 2000.
