Never mind the Gold Medal or the Pritzker. Julyan Wickham has received the ultimate accolade - a special prize in Time Out's Eating & Drinking Awards 1999. In addition to its usual listings of best newcomer, best bargain meal etc, the London listings magazine has created a special category for the man who 'clearly set the trend for canteen-style minimalism'. The magazine effervesces: 'Look at any modern London restaurant, then look at Julyan Wickham's designs, and see if you can trace the inspiration.' As befits a bon viveur, he is photographed in City-boy stripes, in earnest conversation with the owner of a manicured hand, which is holding both a cigarette and a glass of red wine.
