Taste follows money in Middle England

Ruth Slavid (Editorial, aj 20/27.8.98) will be pleased to know we are taking a leap into the future with smooth painted ceilings on the new phase of our latest residential development.

However, the patterned wallpaper, multi-coloured friezes and overall traditional design, much loved by Middle England and much derided by those who know better, blend seamlessly with the real functional benefits for a family which our new multi-media network provides.

In the geographical area where we operate, Middle England pays our bills and, being driven by the lure of filthy lucre, we are most attentive to its desires.

In the subjective matter of taste and the objective matter of education, we are happy for the design gurus to lead and we will then follow the followers - so long as they are in the majority.
