Talking dirty

My old friend Dan Cruickshank, TV's Mr Architecture, is on fighting form. Last weekend he was to be seen explaining why poor old Berthold Lubetkin, having got it all wrong about how gorillas and penguins really behave, then misapplied the lessons he thought he had learned at London Zoo in creating Bevin Court, cited as an example of failed social housing. Dan is surely onto a better idea with his plea to the National Trust this week, to stop disguising the sexual nature of its eighteenth-century gardens, with their more or less explicit references to certain forms and functions. That's the stuff.
