Architects seduced by the charm of Disneylands in California, Florida and outside Paris will be appalled by Carl Hiaasen, author of a string of satirical novels about life in his home state of Florida. He has just written a provocative manifesto entitled Team Rodent: How Disney Devours the World. Among other things, he charges 'rape' of the area around Orlando, home of DisneyWorld - 'a sprawling mass of motels, tacky tourist shops and businesses catering to the Disney tourist'. Celebration, the Poundbury of the swamps, also comes under attack for its police state culture of regulation and control, not to mention the Stepford Wives mentality of its occupants. It is really a Mickey Mouse operation . . .
