The Football Association is running an invited competition for fewer than six architects to design the new £30 million National Football Centre, which will be located at Burton-on-Trent. The centre will become the HQ of the England team when it is completed in summer 2003. The names of the practices on the shortlist are a closely guarded secret, but a selection is due to be made next month.

The centre will include a full size indoor pitch, a replica of the Wembley pitch, a media centre, accommodation, a lecture theatre and fitness and medical facilities.
