Sunny side up

Sugary beverage Sunny Delight may be falling from popularity, but not in the engineering sector. The 2001 Steel Construction Challenge for Schools set a problem of designing and building a rotary frame to circulate 1.2kg of water through the greatest height, using a supplied model kit.

It chose a 200ml Sunny Delight bottle as the loading medium 'because of its size and shape in relation to the intended scale of the solution'. Let's hope that the winners, from Rainham School for Girls, didn't have to drink it.
