Summer fun at the Royal Academy

  • Comment

Some of architecture's hottest names gathered at the Royal Academy last week for the 19th annual Bovis Lend Lease/AJ Royal Academy dinner. Graham Stirk of the Richard Rogers Partnership collected the prize for the practice's model of Centro Congressi Italia Eur Roma, winner of the £10,000 award for the best architectural work in the Summer Show, while Philip Gumuchdjian and Keith Williams were both there to pick up their commendation prizes. Student Matthew Parkes received the £5,000 prize for the best piece of work by a first time exhibitor for his model of 'Fog Catcher', with commendations going to Gerardo Sannella of Chapman Taylor Architect, and Niall McLaughlin. All the winning projects were published in last week's AJ. Bovis Lend Lease managing director John Spanswick presented the prizes, and AJ publishing director Paul Finch delivered an illustrated review of the year.
