The depth of the made ground was found to vary from 1-2.5m and the results of the investigation were used to interpolate a contour map of this made ground/sand interface. By overlaying the proposed foundation layout onto this contour map, it was possible to show the anticipated depths of foundations, and where to introduce steps in the formation to minimise the extent of excavation. Given the presence of the made ground, a suspended beam and block floor was used for the ground-floor construction.
