Stride Treglown reveals kit-of-parts school for Middle East

AJ100 top 20 practice Stride Treglown is targeting Saudi Arabia in 2012 with a modular schools design

The £14million turnover firm, which has eight offices across the UK, currently has just four members of staff in the Middle East, all in Abu Dhabi.

But it hopes the affordable school it has designed will win it work in Saudi and other countries in the region, and allow it to grow its team in the Emirates.

Stride Treglown international director Richard Philipson told AJ: ‘Our plan when we moved to Abu Dhabi was to grow to an office of eight or nine and we are halfway there. It is our plan to grow our presence in the UAE.

‘We have launched the affordable model school and are looking to spread it across the UAE, Saudi and possibly Iraq.’

The Elhaam Schools model was developed in consortium with contractors and FM providers Al Futtaim Carillion, engineers Spectrum and consultants SSAT.

It is designed to provide low cost education facilities tailored to specific sites and the Middle East region in general.

Philipson added: ‘We don’t work in Saudi at the moment but other members of the consortium do. I will be spending time in the first quarter of 2012 going to Saudi and making connections there.

‘The population in Saudi is significantly larger than in the UAE and the country has a huge infrastructure budget. It is a market we think we can exploit from Abu Dhabi.’
