Stirling work

  • Comment

F*** Kensington and Chelsea was a phrase one hardly expected to hear from the winner of the Stirling Prize, but something in the Royal Borough has clearly upset Will Alsop, who also included Camden council in some condemnatory remarks delivered during his acceptance speech last Saturday night. By contrast, Southwark council is the acme of architectural patronage - it is certainly doing well. The Alsop comments were broadcast on Sunday evening, though the expletive was bleeped out. In fact K & C deserves plaudits for having taken one of the bravest decisions of recent times - ignoring the advice of officers and giving permission for Danny Libeskind's Spiral building at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
