Stanton Williams' £13 million Millennium Seed Bank building at Wakehurst Place in West Sussex is now complete and open to the public. The 5,500m2 building, sited on a spur ridge line 400ft above sea level, houses seed vaults, laboratory areas and an interactive exhibition by Land Design Studio. The design aims to create a dialogue between inside and outside spaces which 'should inspire and focus the mind on the global importance of seed collection and biodiversity', said partner Paul Williams.
