I'm a potato,' was Niels Torp's surprising opening line when he lectured this week at his impressive ba Waterside offices near Heathrow. What he meant was that he is a pluralist, absorbing all sorts of influences from all over the place. The same motives, perhaps, lay behind Stuart Lipton's decision to join the audience, even though Torp once told the aj that he didn't think a speculative developer could be persuaded to build a building like Waterside, 'though he might want to work here afterwards'.
