[FIRST LOOK + PLANS + PROJECT DATA] Space Craft Architects has bagged planning for its 13,000m² mixed-use scheme at Chatham, Kent
The town centre project for client Medway Renaissance features 118 homes, with 14 houses, and approximately 3,500m² ground level commercial space.
The scheme won outline planning on 21 April.

We first started looking at this site – currently an underutilised public carpark – back in March 2006. Our brief was to achieve a quantum of retail frontage along The Brook – the rest was left to us to show what was possible.
This site is first off the mark in the realisation of Medway’s long-term regeneration plans and is therefore intended to set a benchmark in terms of architectural distinction, place-making, sustainability, and quality in the public realm.
It has been a long journey and there’s still a long way to go to realise this ambitious scheme, but outline consent represents a significant milestone. It shows what can be accomplished when a supportive client, an engaged planning department, and an integrated design team work together to promote a vision focussed on design quality.
