The British Council has invited Fred Manson, director of regeneration and the environment at Southwark council, to visit New York to discuss the regeneration of the area around the World Trade Centre.Manson will fly out for next Monday to spend a day talking to New Yorkers.

Deputy mayor Nicky Gavron was also invited but was unable to go. 'The great point is that they do not want a purely commercial-driven project but that it needs to take on wider cultural responsibilities, and by cultural they mean public and civic, 'Manson said.
