Sound solution at performing arts centre

  • Comment

An acoustic ceiling from Ecophon, part of leading international materials company Saint-Gobain, has transformed a performing arts centre in Chesterfield.

MyPlace now features 96 Solo™ acoustic ceiling rafts throughout the studio spaces and classrooms. Working closely with architects Frank Shaw Associates, Ecophon came up with a bespoke design for the rafts. Each is shaped like a guitar plectrum which was a conscious design choice, in keeping with the performing arts theme.

Andy Holler, regional sales manager for Ecophon, says: “It was essential that not only did we come up with a solution that performed acoustically, but that also looked good and fitted in with the contemporary feel of the rest of the building.

“Although a large number of the rafts were used, the installation itself was straightforward for B & K ceilings. The finish is striking and hopefully something the pupils will be inspired by. The feedback from teachers has also been very positive, improving the teaching environment and allowing pupils to hear and be heard more clearly.’
