SOM in alternative Elephant project

news

SOM's London office is drawing up redevelopment concepts for the shopping centre at Elephant and Castle - a move that could see it in conflict with Ken Shuttleworth's new practice, Make.

The firm was approached by the centre's landowner, St Modwen, earlier this year and asked to develop proposals after it saw Make's masterplan for the area.

'St Modwen saw Southwark council issue these images with two towers on top of its site, ' said SOM's managing director, Mark Regulinski.

'It's hardly surprising that they've asked us to work for them.' Make's John Prevc said it was 'quite comfortable' with SOM's commission, adding, however, that 'it will not get anywhere without Southwark's support'.
