A giant tower, the tallest building in the world, has been designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and may soar at least 600m into the air above Chicago.
Dearborn Tower - the brainchild of Scott Toberman, president of real- estate firm European Realty Company - will have around 100 floors and cost in the region of £200 million. The design has gone in for planning permission.
If the tower is built, it will dwarf the city's Sears Tower, which until 1996 was the tallest man-made structure at 440m.
Rock to meet Commissionchief over Magna switch
riba president David Rock is to meet Mike O'Connor, director of the Millennium Commission, on 25 June to discuss the Magna project in Rotherham, on which the client replaced Peter Clash and commissioned an entirely new scheme once the project had received funding from the Millennium Commission (aj 7.5.98).
In a letter to Rock, Clash wrote, 'Surprisingly, the client seemed to find it all quite normal that once the project had won money from the erdf and the Millennium to the tune of £25 million, a developer was allowed to take over and brief a new design team to change the project totally.'
