Send in your entry for this year’s prestigious AJ Small Projects Awards by 13 December 2013
Tight budgets are no barrier to creative thinking, and the AJ Small Projects Awards are your chance to show the world what you can deliver with a contract budget of £250,000 or less.
All shortlisted entries will feature in two special February issues of the AJ and at a popular exhibition at The Building Centre. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their work at a top-level crit. All entries will be published in the AJ Buildings Library – valuable publicity for your practice.

The AJ launched the Small Projects Awards in 1996 – originally for schemes with a budget of less than £150,000 – declaring: ‘From home extensions to restaurants, offices to shops, architects all over the country are busy working on projects that may not make the headlines but nevertheless give a real indication of the design talent in Britain today.’
Philip Bintliff of Studio BAAD, who won the award 10 years ago and who was named among the 2013 finalists, said he again intended to enter. He said: ‘Limited budgets demand invention and the shortlists are full of inspiration – often it is a first chance to be published for young practices. We were fortunate to win in 2003. That brought in enquiries for new work, raised our profile and helped with competitive pitches.’
Last year’s winner, Laura Dewe Mathews, added: ‘It is wonderful to have the professional recognition for work I’d invested so much in. As a consequence of winning the prize, the project has reached a significantly wider audience. There has been a lot of interest both in the project and in my work more generally, which has been really fantastic.’
How to enter
Projects should have a total contract value of less than £250,000 and have been completed between 1 January 2012 and 29 November 2013.
You will need to submit 150 words describing your project, along with at least eight photographs, five drawings and one working detail. Entry costs £60 + VAT. All entries must be made digitally via the AJBL. Email Tom Ravenscroft at email@example.com for a unique AJBL login.
