Slateford Green Project

The first phase ofthe £6.7 million Slateford Green Project by Hackland + Dore Architects has been completed.Won in competition in Autumn 1997,the entire four-phase project is due for completion next Spring and will have a community centre and a total of120 housing units.The development,for Canmore Housing Association, is master-planned within a carfree landscape including allotments and reed beds and includes a breathing wall and medium-rise timber frame technology.It is heated by waste heat from a nearby distillery.The picture above shows the first clutch of12 housing units,sited above the community centre with its dome-like lightwell in the roof.
