Silavent's Energex heat-recovery unit extracts 72m 3/h, provides up to 70 per cent heat recovery, yet costs the same as a conventional centrifugal fan - from under £40. As it fits standard 100mm ducting, and can be either flush-, surface- or ceilingmounted, or sited in a window, it can be retrofitted in place of an existing extractor.

Its low price makes heat recovery a viable option - until now heat-recovery fans cost up to £300. The fan removes the dampness in which dust mites thrive, and comes with a washable filter.
