Olympic 2012 masterplanner AECOM has been named on a seven-strong shortlist vying to design an enormous 5,000-home development in Enfield
Enfield Council has also named Arup and Broadway Malyan among the finalists in the running to mastermind the huge Meridian Water scheme just south of the North Circular – a waterfront development site close to the Lee Valley Regional Park, which is being described as ‘the same scale and impact as the Greenwich Peninsula’.
The shortlisted practices have been selected from the Homes and Community Agency’s masterplanning procurement panel by the project’s backers Enfield Council, the Greater London Authority, Environment Agency, Transport for London, the HCA and the London Development Agency.
The full shortlist:
- Broadway Malyan
- LDA Design
- Scott Wilson
- Taylor Young
- Urban Practitioners
Michael Lavender, the authority’s deputy leader of, and the cabinet member for, place shaping and enterprise said: ‘Meridian Water is a development area of massive significance in the region and London, and is a huge opportunity to create a sustainable mixed-use eco-community with a broad economic base.
‘There’s room for everything from commercial and manufacturing operations to waterside apartments, parks and cafés. We want to work with development partners who share our aspiration to achieve the very highest levels of sustainability for the area and give them our support wherever we can, and our delivery plan will make that happen.’
A winning team will be named in March.
