Chapman Taylor's £650 million Trafford Centre, one of Britain's largest out-of-town shopping centres, will have more than 1 million square feet of retail space on two levels comprising 280 shops - but says there is no room for Marks and Spencer! What it will have, however, is the Orient Leisure Dome, a 1600-seat food court complete with 'themed frontages' and arcades from around the world signalling various cuisines. This will 'transport' customers to the Far East, New York, Italy, New Orleans and Egypt, and a huge boat's bridge will tower over the leisure area to hammer home the message to an expected 30 million visitors per year. Meanwhile, the developers are hoping they will get the green light later this month to berth the real hms Britannia elsewhere on the huge site next to the Manchester Ship Canal. So far 23 catering units have been signed up, including McDonalds, Cafe Rouge, tgi Friday and, thankfully, Arkwright's Fish and Chips.
