Is Stephen Bayley finally flipping? The first piece of evidence, admittedly, is not conclusive. He revealed some of his short-lived plans for the Millennium Dome, during his six-month tenancy as its design supremo, speaking to Feargal Keane on Radio 4's Resigning Issues. He said that what he wanted to put inside Richard Rogers' construction was a 'shop of the future', a Sainsbury's designed by the 'greatest architect in the world', aka Norman Foster. Fair enough. More bizarre was an interview earlier this month in which he attacked the disgrace of shopping taking over at Heathrow. Curiously, in the preceding month, in what appeared to be a sponsored article in Harpers & Queen, he and Mrs Bayley were featured enjoying themselves purchasing this and that luxury item - in Sir John Egan's shop of the present, which by coincidenceis still known as Heathrow Airport.
