Sheppard Robson reveals £50m London Business School vision

  • Comment

[First look + plans] Sheppard Robson has unveiled its competition-winning vision for a new £50 million home for the London Business School in the city’s Old Marylebone Town Hall

The Grade II-listed, Edwin Cooper-designed council building will feature a new 200-seat lecture theatre and school entrance.

Gavin Robinson, associate partner at Sheppard Robson, said: ‘The challenge was to create a modern teaching facility for the London Business School that respects the legacy of the existing buildings. The scheme involves not only the complete refurbishment of the Edwardian Council House and the 20th Century Library Annexe, but also the insertion of two key new build structures that form the main entrance to the School and the new lecture theatre block to the rear, replacing a 1960s structure.’

He added: ‘The new entrance makes a statement for the School while acting as a foil for the classical entrances of the Council House and Annexe. The glass and steel structure maintains views through the passage and retains the individual identity of the two existing buildings.’
