Science Centre

  • Comment

Glasgow's Science Centre, which includes the UK's first titanium-clad buildings, is now taking shape on a site opposite Foster's 'armadillo' conference centre. The first building, an Imax cinema (far right), is now open, as is a small link building connecting it to the exhibition centre, now nearing completion. BDP is the architect, with space-frame structures and cladding by Mero. The last building on the site, the Wing Tower, is now structurally complete with the exception of the 104m high viewing platform. It will be the first fully rotating tower. Concept architect for the tower was Richard Hordern. The £75 million project is funded by the Millennium Commission and by local and European bodies. It will open fully in the spring.
