Sasha will be missed, but work will go on

Sasha Lubetkin's departure as director of the Architecture Centre, Bristol, is a cause of sadness for the trustees who recognise her enormous contribution to our success. Without her infectious enthusiasm and immense dedication the centre would not have established itself so strongly both nationally and as a part of Bristol's cultural life.

There is much now to build upon. The city council has offered £60,000 over the next three years towards our educational programme and we have secured almost £30,000 from the Arts Council's New Audiences Fund, in addition to ongoing private sponsorship. In just over two years of operation we have recorded 47,000 visitors and run a continuous programme of exhibitions, visits and events.

We agree with Sasha that the lack of core funding is an ongoing and at times seriously limiting constraint, but the trustees are determined that the enormous potential of the centre will be developed. We look forward to increased collaboration with other centres and other agencies.
