Safety beam

PUBLIC BUILDINGS MEMCO

Passengers using the new lifts in London's Trafalgar Square are protected from trapping accidents by safety detectors from Memco, specialist in lift safety. Because of the shape of the lifts and the hand rails, Memco had to adapt its standard detectors by installing them with a vertical-beam pattern projecting down the lift - rather than the traditional horizontal curtain across an area. With receivers at the base of the shaft, and transmitters screwed to the cabin roof, a break in the beam stops the doors closing and the lift moving.
