S333 is competing against Switzerland’s Local Architecture for a new housing scheme in the south west of France city
The London-based outfit has proposed 175 new homes in four towers for the former industrial site which has been masterplanned by OMA.
The project in the southern suburb of Bègles is part of a city-wide programme to boost affordable housing and create 7,500 new homes a year. Around 18 sites have been earmarked for the first-round of developer-led bidding.
The 1.5 hectare site is bordered by a tram line and a proposed ‘Delta Vert’ linear green park.
S333 co-director Jonathan Woodroffe said: ‘We propose buildings that create the optimum conditions for living adjacent to the Delta Vert below the trees, within the trees or above the trees.
‘The main feature of each apartment is an extra room that can function either as an outdoor space, a patio or a conservatory. Bordeaux’s exceptionally mild climate allows for this extra space to be used as an extension of the living throughout the round.’
S333 is working with Bordeaux-based developers DomoFrance, Logévie and Bouygues on the scheme.
