Hopkins’ double-curved roof structure is now firmly in place on its 6,000 seat velodrome scheme for the 2012 Olympics
The structure aims to be one of the most sustainable in the park, the light-weight roof weighs half that of a ‘standard’ covered velodrome according to the ODA.
Triple gold medalist Chris Hoy advised on the design for the arena. The venue, which will stage Olympic and Paralympic track cycling, is expected to be a ‘medal-factory’ for the British cycling team.
The project is on track to be the first Olympic Park venue to complete. It will be water-tight by the summer, and finished early next year.
