Rolfe Judd has submitted designs for this £16 million steel and fabric pod in a bid to tidy up the transport mess at Vauxhall Cross in south London. The practice wants to build a vast steel canopy, the size of a football pitch, clad with Teflon-coated glass fibre to house a new interchange for trains, the tube and buses. The structure will be located directly in front of the existing train station and will be suspended on two 50m steel masts which pierce the centre of the building. These additions reduce the need for deep foundations and costly interference with underground services.
