Rogers' Terminal 5 waits to clear airline funding hurdle

  • Comment

Richard Rogers Partnership's £2 billion Heathrow Terminal 5 is on hold awaiting the findings of a report into how much the British Airports Authority (BAA) can charge airlines to use its airports.

BAA believes an increase from £5 to £8 per passenger is essential if it is to carry out its entire capital investment programme, including work at Stansted and Gatwick.

BAA's head of planning Mike Thoms said his company is waiting for the report from the Competitions Commission before giving T5 the final go-ahead. 'If the report's findings give us less than we need for the capital investment programme, then we would have to review some of our construction plans, ' he said.
