Welsh first secretary Rhodri Morgan met Lord Rogers last Friday in London to try and resolve the uncertainty surrounding the future of the new £23 million Assembly building. Neither side would comment on the meeting, which came in advance of a major debate at the Assembly on whether to go ahead with the scheme on 21 June. Morgan put the scheme on ice in March after balking at the cost and began investigating options such as staying in the existing Assembly or producing a scaled-down version of Rogers' design.
