RMJM bags £262 million Russian airport job

RMJM has won an international contest to design a 254,000m² terminal building at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow

The 16.5 million-passengers-a-year airport building is scheduled to complete in 2017.

The finished structure will be as large as Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners Heathrow Terminal 5 building, RMJM claimed.

The company is already on the hunt for 20 new staff to work on the project in its Edinburgh and Moscow offices over the next 18 months.

RMJM European studio design principal Tony Kettle said: ‘This is a substantial win for us and is a result of recent work in the country. It further demonstrates both our strength and understanding of the region.

‘This is a particularly prestigious project, as it will provide a first impression of Russia for many people travelling to the country. Our design will reflect this aesthetically and in terms of efficiency.’

Igor Borisov, Moscow Domodedovo Airport director, added: ‘Domodedovo Airport is not only one of the largest, but one of the most modern airports in Russia.

‘The choice of RMJM as a designer is dictated by a desire to emphasise Domodedovo Airport’s dynamics and aspirations for the future through architectural solutions.’
