Ian Ritchie's on-off proposals for a 121m spire in the centre of Dublin are on again this week following a complimentary environmental impact statement ordered by the Irish High Court. The report endorsed the IR£3m project for O'Connell Street as enhancing the centre of the city and serving as 'a dramatic foil' to the street's buildings. A final go-ahead for 'the spike', as locals call it, is expected from environment minister Noel Dempsey in the coming months.
