Richard Hywel Evans Architecture & Design, Call Centre, Swindon

  • Comment

Cellular Operations' new call centre has been dubbed 'the happiest place to work in Britain', a landmark building designed to offer excellent working conditions with optimum temperatures and natural light.

Aluminium features heavily throughout the three-storey structure. The north-facing, brightly lit glass atrium space is used by staff for relaxing in. The double-curvature glass is supported from the tubular beams by large, specially cast, aluminium 'arms'.

Light is reflected into this space by remote perforated aluminium reflectors incorporating adjustable-focus mirrors, and specially designed motorised aluminium trolleys dispense refreshments.

The interior is choreographed as a series of visual entertainments. There are even themed WCs, including a room of rivetted aluminium sheet.
