The brief was to extend and modernise a 1950s house in Wimbledon by remodelling and modifying the planning and spatial characteristics of the existing accommodation. The house now has a new entrance hall and double-height reception room on the ground floor, an extended master-bedroom suite on the first floor and two new bedrooms in the roof. The blank facade of the gabled street elevation has been remodelled and given prominence as a layered front elevation. A covered porch leads to the entrance hall which in turn opens into a large double-height room with views across the garden. The main aspect of this entrance sequence is the fireplace and chimney, the pivot of the new internal plan. The contractor was K D Contracts and the contract sum was £143,000.
