The Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium

The Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, requires an architect to design a new 4,000 m² faculty tower at its Woluwe site.

Originally founded in the 1830s following Belgium’s independence from Holland, the university split in 1968, with the Flemish-speaking part remaining on its old site (pictured), and the French-speaking part moving to Louvain-la-Neuve in 1971.

So severe was the linguistic-cultural split that the existing libraries had to be divided between the two universities. Today the Catholic University of Louvain is Belgium’s largest French-speaking university with facilities at Louvain-la-Neuve and Woluwe-Saint-Lambert.

The award procedure will commence in September 2010 and the application language is French.
