RIBA staff tackle Waugh Thistleton office raiders

Four members of staff from RIBA Enterprises last night interrupted a burglary at Waugh Thistleton Architects’ offices

Two men were spotted going through the practice’s studio at around 9.30pm (Tuesday 31 May) by the RIBA workers, who were in the neighbouring Princess of Shoreditch public house in Paul Street, in the Old Street area of east London.

The RIBA staff challenged the pair and managed to wrestle a ‘getaway’ scooter from them. However after a short scuffle the men ran away.

Among the quartet was former AJ news editor Max Thompson.

It is understood one man has since been arrested in connection with the raid.

Practice co-founder Anthony Thistleton said: ‘They broke through the front door with a brick and got away with a laptop. We are on a corner and have quite a bit of glazing, so we are a target.’

  • What a fantastic service the RIBA now offers - active premises security - surely worth an increase in subscriptions.

A big thank you to the four who stepped in without a thought fro their safety. A bottle is on it's way.
