London secondary-school children have been told a career in architecture is not just for the elite. The riba is targeting Building Opportunity, a schools out-reach scheme, at children from underprivileged backgrounds across the capital. An open day was held this week offering career advice and it will be followed up with workshops, visits to local buildings and work experience for some pupils. 'Architecture has long had an elitist reputation. This project aims to show children from diverse cultures that they have a vital contribution to make,' riba project officer, Chris Nash said.
