RIBA opens Manchester ‘hub’

The RIBA has reopened its Manchester bookshop as a multi-use space called the RIBA hub

Closed as part of a review which saw RIBA Enterprise bookshops in Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester shut up shop, the vacant city centre space has been resurrected as a place for architects and students to ‘collaborate and learn’.

Located in CUBE, the Manchester Architecture Centre, at 113-115 Portland Street, the project will throw open its doors on 12 May with a six-week programme of exhibitions and activities in collaboration with the Manchester School of Architecture.

RIBA chief executive Harry Rich explained: ‘The RIBA Hub presents a fantastic opportunity for the RIBA to not only support our local RIBA members and students with a whole host of resources and events, but also to raise the profile of architecture in a very visible way on the Manchester high street.’

Tom Jefferies, head of Manchester School of Architecture added: ‘The Hub will add to Manchester’s vibrant architectural and design culture, providing a city centre location to exhibit and exchange ideas and discuss work.

‘Manchester School of Architecture welcomes this exciting collaboration with the RIBA, reinforcing our links with the profession and engaging our research driven work with a wider public audience.’

The space (pictured) will host a meeting room, exhibition space, café and bookshop selling specialist books and magazines. CPD courses will also be provided to RIBA members and allied professionals at the centre.
