RIBA Forgotten Spaces contest: registration deadline extended and free workshops announced

  • Comment

The registration deadline for RIBA’s annual Forgotten Spaces competition has been extended to the 25 April and a series of free workshops have been announced for participants

The RIBA is hosting three workshops for anyone interested in entering the Forgotten Spaces contests. Open to all, the events will explain the context and background to competition brief and give interested participants an opportunity to discuss their proposals.

The London workshops are in Hammersmith on Thursday 11 April, 2.30pm - 5pm, and in Enfield on Tuesday 23 April 2.30pm- 5pm. The Preston workshop will take place at UCLan on Saturday 13th April.

The initiative, which is open to all UK residents, seeks inventitive proposals for the re-use and adaptation of redundant and neglected spaces in London and Preston.

The best schemes in each city will be awarded prizes of £5,000, £2,000 or £1,000, be published in a special issue of the AJ, and exhibited at Somerset House in London and the old Post Office building in Preston.

RIBA president, Angela Brady said: ‘Forgotten Spaces provides a fantastic opportunity for architects and designers to lead regeneration by seeking out and improving an ‘eyesore’ in their local area.

‘These inspired ideas will be shared with a public audience, including local authorities, investors and developers. It forms a test bed for ideas for those ‘left over spaces’ and shows what our towns and cities could look like with a little bit of inspiration.’
