RIBA drawings sale will stop HLF grants

Colin James, the RIBA treasurer, does enormous damage to the work undertaken by the RIBA task force, and by the consultant KPMG, in suggesting that a small percentage of the RIBA Library should be sold off to pay for the upkeep of the rest.

The consultant's report has prepared the ground for a final application to the Heritage Lottery Fund to house the BAL Collections. Colin James must have forgotten that the Heritage Lottery Fund is the designated fund to provide grants for heritage material. If that material - the greatest collection of architectural drawings in the world - is to be systematically quarried and sold off, the RIBA cannot expect to receive funding from the HLF, or from any other charitable trust.
