The remarks which Lee Mallett made en passant in his Maundy Thursday letter (aj 9.4.98) about the Drawings Collection are inaccurate.
riba past president Owen Luder set up a task force, which I chaired. With the help of consultants kpmg and L & R it definitively established the scale and range of the problems facing not only the Drawings Collection but the whole of the riba Library. This report, which has been widely praised for its thoroughness, has led immediately to the setting up of two groups, one chaired by president David Rock himself, the other chaired by the dg Alex Reid aided by Guy Russell of mace, to examine urgently and fully the four options which my task force generated with a view to the early implementation of the best one.
The solutions found will be based on a full understanding of all the issues clearly outlined in the report. That is good management by the riba at the highest level and it is offensive of Lee Mallett to suggest otherwise.
