RIBA Awards deadline extended for London 2012 schemes

The RIBA has given London 2012 Olympics projects freed from the Draconian marketing ban an extra week to submit for its annual awards programme

The government announced yesterday it had come to an agreement allowing companies to promote their involvement in the summer games.

As part of the deal the British Olympic Association (BOA) has set up a ‘supplier recognition scheme’ so practices can display their London 2012 work in tender bids, at trade shows and in industry awards.

The official deadline for entries to the RIBA Awards is 31 January but projects benefiting from the BOA’s new scheme have been given until 8 February to submit entries.

The extended deadline is the same as the cutoff point for projects outside the capital. Temporary Olympic structures will also be allowed to enter the awards.

An RIBA spokesperson said: ‘All entrants are strongly encouraged not to leave it until the last minute to avoid everybody uploading on the system at the same time.’
