It deploys an interesting range of robust materials in an imaginative way, to create a positive and pleasant atmosphere in terms of its appearance as well as its use of light, sound, smell and touch.

LONGLEY PARK SIXTH FORM COLLEGE, SHEFFIELD Ellis Williams Architects Client: Longley Park Sixth Form College This project in a disadvantaged area of Sheffield is characterised externally by its use of reddish lignum panels and dark bricks, which appear quite austere, but nevertheless have a warmth to them.

It succeeds in providing an interesting range of spaces within a seemingly uniform set of volumes, generating a dynamic atmosphere for learning.
