The Royal Fine Art Commission has asked Foster and Partners to ensure it draws up a long-term demolition strategy for the distinctive Swiss Re building, just two weeks after the drawings for the scheme were unveiled. rfac chairman Lord St John of Fawsley said that design changes had improved the scheme - it was shorter and dumpier at first. But he added: 'this is clearly an adventurous proposal and its degree of success will not become apparent until it has been completed and occupied'. The rfac believes that the building will improve the City's public realm, although, 'further elegance would be desirable.'
