Revealed: first phase of Man City expansion

The first part of Manchester City FC’s stadium redevelopment is set to go ahead with the creation of a Fan Zone, drawn up by BDP

Manchester City Council has approved the proposals, which will see a series of market stalls and a three-metre high wind break erected to form a ‘City Street’.

The features the Summerbee and Star bar which will be ‘kitted out with the latest technology enabling multiple pints to be poured in seconds’. 

Meanwhile it is understood the owners of Manchester City football club are progressing with the Rafael Viñoly-designed £1 billion sports and leisure complex close to the stadium.

The 200-acre site at Eastlands, which was previously ear-marked by Gordon Brown for a super casino, is expected to include a £5 million training complex, as well as leisure centres, restaurants and a hotel.

In March Sheikh Mansour, owner of Manchester City, reached a deal with the city council and regeneration body New East Manchester to collaborate on the development (AJ 15.03.10).
